The Poumai Naga Folklore Story Writing competition is a prelude to the ambitious Winter School of Poumai Naga Culture, 2020. Through this competition, we hope to collect valuable Poumai mythology/Folklores which are still discoursed by the community members. Lores of Poumai mythology/folklores are lying dormant in the shadow of “Globalization” for far too long and it is time to haul them back out into the public domain where they deserve to belong. There is a new wave of young authors out there, writers ready to draw on their cultural heritage to create a rich and compelling portfolio of new works. We are hoping this competition is going to help kindle that process. Know thy roots. Explore the unexplored. Appreciate the legacy. Embrace the richness of your heritage. Prizes First Prize Rs.10,000 and story published in The Poumai Naga Folklore Collection Second Prize Rs.7000 and story published in The Poumai Naga Folklore Collection Third Prize Rs.5000 and story published in The Poumai Naga Folklore Collection 10 Consolation Prize Rs. 1000 each and story published in The Poumai Naga Folklore Collection What we are looking for Any kind of fiction short story will be considered (action, romance, drama, humour etc.) as long as they meet the following criteria: · Poumai centric mythology or folklore forms a fundamental element of the story (i.e. the characters can be characters from Poumai mythology/folklores, the action can take place in a mythological location, mythological concepts can be used etc.). · Any Poumai folklore or mythological reference used should be culturally accurate . · A compelling story/theme, engaging characters. Terms and Conditions All successful authors will be contacted by email. ·The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into once the winners have been announced. ·By submitting a story to the competition the author warrants that the story is original, and entirely the author’s own work.
